Tragedy On Ice: Two-Time Olympic Medalist Paralyzed From the Waist-Down During Game
A tragic event has occurred in the hockey world as we learn that 26-year-old Finnish player and double Olympic medalist, Sanni Hakala, has suffered a terrible accident during a match.
According to recent reports from Finland, it has been revealed that she is now paralyzed from the waist down due to a brutal collision during a game between HV71, her team, and Djurgarden of the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL).
The incident occurred in the first minutes of the match when Hakala, moving quickly, tried to position herself in front of the net. Unfortunately, she lost her balance and crashed onto the ice, sending her headfirst into the goalpost. She remained motionless on the ice for some time.
Medical staff quickly took care of Hakala, providing assistance on the spot before taking her on a stretcher to an ambulance headed for the hospital. According to the latest news circulating about her, she is paralyzed following the incident, as stated by a first responder to Jonkopings-Posten.
"Finnish national women's team player Sanni Hakala was seriously injured during a match in the Swedish women's league. She collided head-on with a post during the match. According to Jönköpings Posten, she has no sensation in her extremities, from the waist down."
An ambulance worker revealed other very worrying details:
"We pressed several times very hard on her leg, with very strong force, and she did not react."
A very unfortunate incident that will end her playing career in hockey. We send her our best wishes and still hope that she will recover from these serious injuries.
