The hockey world has been shaken by another tragedy this past weekend. Tragically, goaltender Nikolai Kuznetsov collapsed on the ice while warming up for a match in the SHL in Russia and sadly passed away before medical personnel could assist him.
According to some reports, it appears that the lack of medical personnel on site was a determining factor in the goalie's death. Director Sergei Stolyarov explained that the players themselves had decided not to hire medical staff due to the astronomical costs this additional expense would entail.
Although paramedics eventually arrived on the scene, attempting by all means to resuscitate Nikolai Kuznetsov, it was unfortunately too late. It should be noted that this is the second death of an amateur player in Russia this month, as another player also recently lost his life in similar circumstances.
Therefore, the decision not to have ambulances present at the arena has caused a lot of discussion on social media, as this tragic event could possibly have been avoided if the goalie had received medical assistance more quickly.
