Chris Wideman's Future in the NHL Continues to Be Uncertain: the Silence From the Canadiens Organization Says Everything
Just before the Montreal Canadiens started their training camp this year, the organization confirmed that defenseman Chris Wideman would be absent for an indefinite period due to a back injury. However, what seemed like a standard announcement a few months ago is becoming increasingly concerning today.
Indeed, even though the season has been underway for almost two months now, the 33-year-old veteran has not yet resumed training with his teammates. Moreover, he has completely disappeared from the team's surroundings, and the Canadiens have not communicated any news regarding a potential return to play.
According to some information reported on social media, Chris Wideman is currently back in the United States to continue his rehabilitation. It's quite worrying to see that the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge has not given any update on his health status for several weeks.
" Is Chris Wideman okay? Not a word about him since the announcement of his back injury at the start of the season. - Andrew Zadarnowski"
Although his performance on the ice (six assists in 46 games last year) was not up to the standard of a regular NHL defenseman, Chris Wideman was greatly appreciated in the CH locker room. He had an excellent relationship with many young players on the team, like Cole Caufield and Kirby Dach.
However, everything seems to indicate that his association with the Montreal organization might be coming to an end. His presence with the team this season seems increasingly uncertain. He could potentially miss the entire campaign due to his serious injury. Moreover, knowing that Martin St-Louis has excellent defensemen at hand, it would be surprising if Kent Hughes considers offering him a contract extension next summer.
One thing is certain, it will be very interesting to see if this injury will mark the end of his career, as he will be facing a significant decision in the coming months.
