We have just learned in the last few minutes, thanks to the excellent Darren Dreger of TSN, that Scott Arniel is officially the new head coach of the Winnipeg Jets, replacing Rick Bowness.
Arniel, who played with the Jets in the 1980s, was the favorite from the beginning of the hiring process due to his experience and strong reputation among players.
After retiring in 1999, Arniel held various coaching positions, including assistant coach with the Manitoba Moose and the Buffalo Sabres, then head coach of the Moose, where he won the Louis A. R. Pieri Memorial Award in 2009. In 2010, he briefly served as head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Subsequently, Arniel coached the Chicago Wolves before joining the New York Rangers in 2013. In 2018, after his tenure with the Rangers, he was hired as an assistant coach by the Washington Capitals, the reigning Stanley Cup champions.
