The Vancouver Canucks hit a home run
The Vancouver Canucks made a strong signing in the last few minutes, with forward Daniel Sprong agreeing to a one-year contract worth $975,000, according to insider Elliotte Friedman.
A former second-round pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2015, Sprong was still an unrestricted free agent.
After a 2023-2024 season with the Detroit Red Wings, where he earned $2 million, he accepted a notable salary reduction.
Last season, Sprong scored 18 goals and totaled 43 points in 76 games, his second-best performance after his 46 points with the Seattle Kraken in 2022-2023.
At 27 years old, he has accumulated 85 goals and 159 points in 344 NHL games. Before the NHL, he played in the QMJHL with the Charlottetown Islanders.
With this signing, the Canucks now have less than $16,000 in cap space under the $88 million salary cap.
