Kent Hughes, the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens, seems to be preparing a surprise for this summer, similar to the unexpected acquisition of Sean Monahan two years ago.
Currently, the Canadiens still need to sign Justin Barron and Arber Xhekaj. Once these signings are completed and with Carey Price placed on the long-term injured reserve list, the team would have about 17 million dollars of cap space remaining.
This provides Hughes with an opportunity to be active on the market, potentially seeking a "bad contract" to acquire, as he did with Monahan.
Names such as Patrik Laine, Jonathan Huberdeau, Tyler Seguin, and Alex Killorn have been mentioned.
