The Toronto Maple Leafs were finally back at the Scotiabank Arena to play the third game of their series against the Boston Bruins last night.

Unfortunately for Sheldon Keefe's squad, Jim Montgomery's men came out on top, winning 4-2 thanks to the brilliance of goalkeeper Jeremy Swayman. Undefeated in six playoff games against the Leafs, Boston Bruins' number 1 was spectacular with 28 saves, allowing his team to take a 2-1 lead.
However, it wasn't the players' effort that was criticized after the game, but rather that of the Toronto fans. Even though the team has a chance to go far in the playoffs, Leafs fans were simply disconnected from the crucial importance of this third game.
In fact, Joe Bowen, the commentator who has been describing Leafs games for 42 years now, severely criticized the fans after the match. According to him, fan support was simply absent last night, a situation that was truly unacceptable when a team plays such an important game.
The idea of going
To any sporting event
To support the home team is to
Be PRO ACTIVE!!!
Give the team energy when they need it Not sitting down waiting
To be REACTIVE. The players can't say it but I will tonight's crowd was VERY DISAPPOINTING

- Joe Bowen

Wow! That's quite clear!
Having watched the game myself, I was outraged to see several fans leaving the Scotiabank Arena when the score was 3-2 with a few minutes left in the game. When you pay a crazy price to attend a playoff game, it seems to me that the least you can do is support your team until the full 60 minutes of play are over.
Even if the Canadiens' last game of the season had no impact on the overall standings or the playoff picture, the Bell Centre was buzzing with fan support. That's when you realize how lucky we are to have such an intense and engaged fan base in Montreal.
I bet many Leafs players were probably discouraged to see that their own fans no longer seemed to believe in a comeback. One thing's for sure, you can be convinced that a similar situation will never happen at the Bell Centre when the Habs are back in the playoffs!
What a shame! Once again, the Leafs make themselves look ridiculous!
