Claude Julien is back as an assistant coach in the NHL
Claude Julien, the former head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, is making his return to the NHL as an assistant coach with the St. Louis Blues.
Steve Ott, meanwhile, has been promoted to associate coach.
Julien, who was dismissed by the Canadiens in February 2021 and replaced by Dominique Ducharme, has worked as a scout for the Blues since the 2022-2023 season.
At 64, he brings extensive experience to the team, having coached 1274 NHL games with the New Jersey Devils, the Boston Bruins (whom he led to a Stanley Cup victory in 2011), and the Montreal Canadiens.
His record includes 667 wins, 445 losses, 10 ties, and 152 overtime losses. In 2009, he won the Jack Adams Award as the NHL's coach of the year.
