The Winnipeg Jets seem ready to trade young Rutger McGroarty, and the Montreal Canadiens have been mentioned as a possible destination.

The disagreement between the organization and McGroarty over his development has led to this decision.
In a recent column, it was suggested that Canadiens' GM Kent Hughes should contact Kevin Cheveldayoff of the Jets to inquire about McGroarty's price.
The Jets might want to reclaim their 26th overall pick or obtain an impactful defenseman like Mike Matheson or Kaiden Guhle in exchange for the 14th pick of 2022.
Scott Billeck from the Winnipeg Sun proposed an offer including the 26th pick and defenseman Justin Barron for McGroarty. According to him, the Jets are looking to replace their first-round pick lost in the trade involving Sean Monahan. Additionally, Justin could join his brother Morgan in Winnipeg.
McGroarty, 20, accumulated 52 points in 36 games this season in the NCAA and shone at the World Junior Championship.
The situation remains to be watched to see if a deal will be made.
