The Philadelphia Flyers have just announced that they have terminated the contract of Ryan Johansen, a veteran of the NHL with 900 games played.
However, he must first go through the waiver process.
Injured with a hip issue, Johansen never had the chance to play for the Flyers since being acquired at the 2024 trade deadline from the Colorado Avalanche.
All indications suggest that Johansen plans to contest this decision by filing a grievance.
Before arriving in Philadelphia, Johansen had scored 23 points in 63 games for the Avalanche.
Drafted 4th overall in 2010 by the Columbus Blue Jackets, he then spent the majority of his career with the Nashville Predators, where he signed an eight-year, $64 million contract in 2017.
Despite his lengthy career, Johansen never wore the Flyers' colors or played for their AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
