At the Montreal Canadiens, if Jesperi Kotkaniemi is becoming an excellent hockey player, making the organization regret giving up on his case as he accumulates nine points in nine games this season, the departure of Ryan Poehling, on the other hand, is not likely to become a big disappointment.
Now 24 years old, the 25th pick of the 2017 draft is still struggling to find his rhythm and reach his full potential in the NHL. After a short stint in Pittsburgh, following his trade from Montreal, the center signed a one-season contract with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Worse still, he was left out of the last matchup by his coach John Tortorella. Even though their campaign start is surprising, the Flyers' lineup is not very high-caliber, which fuels even more disappointment to see that he is not even able to make his place in a team with little depth.
Still surprising, especially when we remember that he scored a hat trick, plus the winning shootout goal, in his first career game.
