Blockbuster trade soon be announced between the Senators and the Predators?
Yaroslav Askarov, a promising goaltending prospect for the Predators, is causing speculation as Barry Trotz considers trading him.
Despite Juuse Saros being the number one goaltender, Askarov's impressive performance wherever he plays makes it difficult to justify such a trade.
The team's plan appears to be evaluating whether another club would be willing to pay a high price for this young talent.
If Saros intends to stay long-term, it's likely the veteran will remain. Last year, Nashville wanted to draft David Reinbacher with the 5th pick, offering Askarov to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange, but they declined.
This suggests the possibility of trading Askarov is again being considered this year.
Mathias Brunet mentioned the possibility that the Ottawa Senators, looking to trade their 7th overall pick, might be interested in Askarov in return.
Such a transaction could address the Sens' short-term goaltending needs while giving Nashville an opportunity to strengthen other key positions, especially in a draft heavy on defensemen this year.
