Juraj Slafkovsky has come out of his shell to establish himself as one of the best players for the Canadiens in 2024. He is also gaining a lot of confidence in the locker room.
So much so that there is already talk of him potentially wearing a letter on his jersey. The first overall pick in the 2022 draft is a key part of the Canadiens' core for the coming years.
He could very well assist Nick Suzuki as an alternate captain. That's what Sportsnet journalist Eric Engels suggested:
"I absolutely believe so! (that he can have an 'A' on his jersey)
But Slafkovsky doesn't need that official designation to be considered a leader. I think he's already shown that he's a natural leader — both in Montreal and in international competition for Slovakia — and the qualities that make him one will only become more prominent as he grows." - Eric Engels
Interesting! It also demonstrates the impact of Slafkovsky's progression in his game, as well as in the way he conducts himself on a daily basis.
The alternate captains to Nick Suzuki last year for the Canadiens were Mike Matheson and Brendan Gallagher. Could there be a change as soon as next season?
We'll see, but Slaf could have a letter on his jersey sooner rather than later!
