At the beginning of the upcoming season, Juraj Slafkovsky and Kaiden Guhle will enter the final year of their entry-level contracts in the NHL.

According to the collective bargaining agreement, they will have the opportunity to extend their contracts with the Canadiens starting from July 1st.
However, as recently mentioned by Arpon Basu, there have been no discussions so far between the Canadiens and the representatives of the forward or the defenseman. Therefore, it seems unlikely that an agreement will be reached in the coming weeks.
The journalist from The Athletic also provided additional information on negotiations with Slafkovsky, suggesting that the Canadiens will aim to maintain a certain salary structure within the team.
Thus, a contract for player number 20 should not exceed the average annual value of Nick Suzuki's contract, even though the salary cap has increased since the captain's contract was signed in October 2021.
