Troubling revelation from Jeff Gorton about the Canadiens' inaction

Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes haven't been big fans of the free agent market since joining the Canadiens. They continue their rebuilding plan, and it can be admitted that they are heading in the right direction.

Only players with American Hockey League status have been signed by the organization since the market opened on July 1 at noon.

Listening carefully to the vice president of hockey operations before the draft, one could deduce that the Canadiens would not steal the show:

"I think it's too early. We're going to watch and see what these big names think. They must think like us. We have a lot of young players in development who need the opportunity to play. I wouldn't want to hinder someone's development in exchange for an older player on a long-term contract that would go against our rebuild."
