It's a good deal for the Canadiens and Kent Hughes. The ball is now in the court of the player known as the Sheriff for his next contract after this one.
As they say in the jargon, this is a bridge contract between Xhekaj and the Canadiens organization.
On Tuesday, Kent Hughes, the General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens, announced that the team had agreed to terms on a two-season contract (2024-2025 to 2025-2026) worth $2.6 million with defenseman Arber Xhekaj. The deal will earn him an average annual salary of $1.3 million.

Xhekaj played 44 games with Montreal last season, recording 10 points (3G, 7A) and a +6 rating, ranking him second on the team in this statistic for 2023-2024. The 6'4» and 240 lb defenseman also led his team with 81 penalty minutes, finishing the season with 125 hits, the highest number recorded among the team's defensemen.
