Despite the ongoing sadness following Johnny Gaudreau's passing, the Columbus Blue Jackets find themselves in a critical situation with their salary cap.

With Gaudreau's $9.75 million contract removed, the team is now $2.7 million below the NHL salary floor.
Although Gary Bettman has yet to intervene, the situation requires swift adjustments.
According to *The Hockey News*, the Montreal Canadiens could play a key role in helping the Blue Jackets reach the salary floor.
The Canadiens are reportedly considering a trade, with players like Brendan Gallagher, Josh Anderson, Joel Armia, and Christian Dvorak as potential candidates.
Gallagher and Anderson, with their longer contracts, seem less likely, while Armia and Dvorak, with shorter contracts, might be more realistic targets.
Kent Hughes could thus assist Columbus while seeking a beneficial return for Montreal.
