Shocking accusations emerge on Jesperi Kotkaniemi's time in Montreal
Renaud Lavoie has revealed significant information indicating that Jesperi Kotkaniemi was a real problem with the Canadiens and outright refused help from veterans in Montreal to improve.
Here's what the journalist recently disclosed on BPM Sports about the situation:
"I have tons of examples of veterans who wanted to help [in Montreal] and he refused the help." – Renaud Lavoie on Jesperi Kotkaniemi
Lavoie discussed the Finnish forward's attitude problems to draw a parallel with Juraj Slafkovsky, who is not at all from the same mold.
Unlike Kotkaniemi, Slaf is eager and continuously seeks help from his teammates, coaches, and available specialists to constantly progress.
This revelation from the TVA Sports journalist is highly concerning regarding Kotkaniemi.
What I find fascinating is that at the time of his selection as the third overall pick in the 2018 draft, the organization's mantra was Attitude is everything.
Yet, in unexpectedly acquiring KK, who was seen as a reach—that is, a premature selection of a player expected to go later—the management was supposed to have done their due diligence to thoroughly understand the young player they were choosing.
It's not new that the Canadiens are known for having very special and challenging psychological interviews with prospects to delve deeper into their personality and attitude.
Despite this, they completely missed the mark by selecting a player whose temperament could significantly hinder his development.
This isn't the first time we've heard about Kotkaniemi's behavioral issues while with the CH, and in light of all this, it seems he was indeed a real detriment within the team's locker room.
It's clear that he is ultimately the most responsible for his disappointing development, with only 11 goals and 25 points in 73 games this year, in his fifth season in the NHL.
