While there was much anticipation for an announcement from the Montreal Canadiens and Kent Hughes, Kapanen instead chose to join Timra IK in the SHL, where his father serves as general manager.
Although this decision doesn't rule out a future in Montreal in the medium term, Kapanen will continue his development in Europe for now, rather than joining the Laval Rocket.
At just 20 years old, Kapanen is already standing out as one of the best players on his team, tallying 34 points in 51 games this season and 14 points in 13 playoff games.
While this situation may not be ideal, it doesn't seem to be a disaster either, as Kapanen progresses promisingly in Sweden.
