For the second year in a row, the Montreal Canadiens have the luxury of drafting 5th overall in the NHL draft. Various scenarios are being explored.
The excellent informant Pierre LeBrun extensively discussed with the general manager Kent Hughes in his most recent article on The Athletic.
According to what we understand, the only reason that could force the Canadiens and Kent Hughes to consider trading their 5th overall pick is if all the forwards potentially targeted by the Canadiens are drafted before their turn.
One quickly thinks of Ivan Demidov and Cayden Lindstrom. Tij Iginla is also a candidate. During the NHL draft lottery press conference, Kent Hughes stated, "We are targeting a forward this year."
It's understandable why the Canadiens might be interested in moving back slightly if all the offensive players targeted by the organization are already selected. https://x.com/PierreVLeBrun/status/1798156672277340503
