This decision, revealed by Cloutier, was made to protect the player before the start of the 2024-2025 NHL season.
General Manager Kent Hughes, in consultation with the team's medical staff, made this decision despite Slafkovsky's desire to play for his country. The Olympic qualifiers will begin on August 29, and although Slafkovsky had expressed his wish to participate, the final decision was made by the Canadiens' management.
