Major development involving Nikolaj Ehlers and the Montreal Canadiens

The Jets need to trade their speedy forward quickly as he refuses to sign a new contract with them.

David Pagnotta reports that several teams, including the Hurricanes, Islanders, Bruins, and the Canadiens, are interested in Ehlers.

Kent Hughes, the Canadiens' general manager, seems actively involved in this matter, seeking to finalize a significant trade even after the draft.

Hughes would probably only proceed with this trade if he was certain he could sign Ehlers to a contract worth less than $7.5 million per year.

Nikolaj Ehlers, 28, is a 6-foot, 175-pound forward. Selected 9th overall in 2014, he scored 25 goals and recorded 61 points in 82 games in the 2023-2024 season.

In his career, he has accumulated 457 points in 605 games with the Jets.
