Kent Hughes pulls off a real steal with a transaction involving the Oilers
The Canadiens' general manager has made some savvy moves since taking the helm of the team.
Shortly after assuming his new role, Kent Hughes orchestrated a transaction, initially considered minor at the time, which has proven to be a significant move years later.
Brett Kulak departed the Canadiens for the Oilers in exchange for William Lagesson, alongside second and seventh-round draft picks.
With the first pick from this exchange, the Canadiens seized the opportunity to acquire promising defenseman Lane Hutson.
Given his brief end-of-season sample, it's widely agreed that he alone almost justifies the transaction.
Moreover, with the seventh-round pick, the Canadiens selected Swedish defenseman Rasmus Bergvist at the latest annual draft in Las Vegas.
He's proven to be a rather intriguing player despite being a late-round selection. Clearly, the Canadiens and Kent Hughes made a winning bet with this transaction, sending defenseman Brett Kulak to the Oilers, who has since thrived with the Stanley Cup finalists.
