Last week, the Edmonton Oilers saw the St. Louis Blues submit two offer sheets to young players.

A few years ago, similar offer sheets created quite a buzz among the Canadiens. We remember Marc Bergevin's offer to Sebastian Aho and the Hurricanes' offer to Jesperi Kotkaniemi.
Given the situations with Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg, it's clear that Kent Hughes made a smart move by securing long-term deals for Juraj Slafkovsky and Kaiden Guhle quickly.
It's often said around the NHL that offer sheets are likely to increase in the coming years, largely due to the impact and emergence of young players.
Just like Juraj Slafkovsky, who is poised to sign a big contract after only two seasons, the Canadiens made the right call with eight-year deals for Slafkovsky and six years for Kaiden Guhle.
Kent Hughes wanted to avoid a situation as uncomfortable as the one Stan Bowman faced with the Oilers.
