Ivan Demidov chosen after the Canadiens rejected multiple offers
On Friday evening, Montreal Canadiens General Manager Kent Hughes selected Russian forward Ivan Demidov with the fifth overall pick in the NHL Draft.
Ranked among the top two prospects by many experts, Demidov ended up being chosen fifth, much to the delight of Canadiens fans.
A 5'11", 181-pound right winger, Demidov possesses exceptional intelligence, a powerful shot, and remarkable puck control.
Even without the puck, he remains highly engaged and managed to accumulate 60 points in 30 games in the MHL this season. He could join the Canadiens as early as next season.
According to insider Pierre LeBrun, the Canadiens received between four and five offers for the fifth overall pick.
However, Hughes turned down these offers, considering them insufficient compared to Demidov's potential.
Canadiens fans will be pleased to know that Hughes stood firm in his decision against these proposals.
