The Montreal Canadiens continue their quest to find their number one goaltender, despite promising performances from Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau this season. However, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton may have found the rare gem they were looking for in last year's draft in Jacob Fowler.
Selected in the third round, Fowler is widely regarded as one of the top goaltending prospects. At just 19 years old, he quickly established himself as the top goaltender at Boston College, boasting an impressive record of 32-6-1, with a goals against average of 2.14 and a save percentage of 0.926.
Although Fowler was nominated for the Mike Richter Award, given to the top collegiate goaltender in the United States, he was edged out by Kyle McClellan of the Wisconsin Badgers. Nevertheless, his nomination underscores his promising potential. Despite speculation that he could join the Laval Rocket next season, Fowler confirmed that he will continue his collegiate career at Boston College.
However, he revealed that he may consider making the leap to the professional ranks as soon as the 2025-2026 season. Canadiens fans would certainly be excited to see Fowler play for the Laval Rocket or even the Montreal Canadiens. Despite his Florida roots, Fowler is eager to join Montreal, having family ties to the city.
