Is Logan Mailloux the piece to sacrifice for an elite forward?
The Canadiens have heavily invested in defense in recent years and may need to sacrifice some young players to add offensive talent.
Martin Necas' name has been linked with the Canadiens for a while now, especially since the Hurricanes were eliminated by the Rangers. The forward is becoming a restricted free agent and could leave Carolina.
He has an intriguing profile for the Canadiens, who are unsurprisingly looking to bolster their attack to support both the first line and the second unit, led by the returning Kirby Dach.
Another proposal, which makes a lot of sense, has been raised online regarding a potential trade between the Canadiens and the Hurricanes for Martin Necas.
The name Logan Mailloux is also frequently mentioned. Let's take a look at what hockey blogger Marc-Olivier Beaudoin suggests:
" The 5th overall pick is not an option (to include in a trade involving Martin Necas).
The 26th pick + Logan Mailloux + Oliver Kapanen (and possibly a player from the roster) would be much more acceptable. "
So forget about the 5th selection right away, it will remain the Canadiens' property. Kapanen is making a name for himself after a fine season in Europe and a very good World Championship with Finland. He could be an interesting asset in a trade.
