At 27, Gurianov did not meet expectations in the NHL. Selected 12th overall by the Dallas Stars in the 2015 draft, he accumulated 113 points in 298 regular-season games and only reached 20 goals once, during the 2019-2020 season.
The Canadiens acquired him on February 26, 2023, in exchange for Evgenii Dadonov, but he only played 23 games in Montreal, scoring five goals and adding three assists.
He was later moved to Nashville and Philadelphia, where his performance was modest, with just two points in 18 games.
