The situation with Sean Monahan and the Montreal Canadiens has been generating a lot of buzz lately.
Due to the fact that the veteran will become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and because of his impressive performance this season, many are hoping that Kent Hughes will make another spectacular move for the services of the forward.
For the same reason of the center player's very interesting performance, others are eagerly hoping that the GM of the Canadiens will offer him a contract to keep him in Montreal for a good while.
In connection with the expected outcome in the Monahan case with the CH, the excellent insider Elliotte Friedman has almost guaranteed that he will be traded by the trade deadline. However, he also adds a very interesting detail.
In his 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Friedman thinks it's almost guaranteed that Monahan will be traded, but he thinks there's a chance he could then return to Montreal as a free agent.
So, there is a real possibility of seeing Monahan make a return to Montreal this summer, after getting a huge return for him at the trade deadline. It would be the perfect scenario for those who want a trade and those who want a signing.
Imagine this, if Hughes manages to get at least a first-round pick in return for Monahan's services in a few weeks, and then succeeds in re-signing him in a few months, he might just have committed the biggest steal of recent years.
The Canadiens would benefit from two first-round picks obtained for free for Monahan, while keeping the player on their roster for the coming seasons.
It would be a completely crazy outcome!
