Kirby Dach Goes Off on the Blackhawks Organization: He Is Certainly Happier in Montreal
During his recent appearance on Chris Nilan's excellent podcast, Kirby Dach made significant revelations about his former organization, expressing his heart about questionable decisions made by the Blackhawks regarding him.
The 23-year-old forward disclosed one of the main reasons for his ordinary offensive performance when he was in Chicago.
He mentioned that the Hawks decided to move him to the center of the third line under the pretext that they wanted him to become a shutdown player. In other words, they wanted him to face the best opposing lines night after night, never relying on his offensive talent to create things in the attack.
What a strange decision by the organization, less than three years after drafting him as a top prospect at the third overall pick in the 2019 draft!
In the same vein, Dach also stated:
«There were too many things happening at the same time. Those were dark times and I wondered if I was capable of continuing. Hockey became boring because that's not the player I am. I'm not just a defensive center.» – Kirby Dach
The mere fact of trading a young player under 21 for future prospects was already an incredibly surprising decision. Learning now that the Hawks tried to divert Dach's offensive potential is a striking realization.
Is it a managerial error by the leadership? Is it a poor assessment by the coaching staff in place of what Dach could really offer?
According to Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane, who praised the potential of number 77 and said they did not understand his departure from Chicago, it seems there was seriously a big lack of judgment somewhere.
It's regrettable because, as Dach testified, his desire and enthusiasm for playing hockey had significantly diminished there. If he hadn't been traded, he probably would have suffocated being used in that manner.
Fortunately, and to the great delight of the forward, he was traded to Montreal, and he even expressed his love for the city of Montreal and the team's fans, calling them "incredible."
