The Montreal Canadiens have placed a strong emphasis on drafting goaltenders in their latest draft, adding three more prospects to a pool that already includes some interesting talent.
Jacob Fowler and Jakub Dobes may possibly be the two prospects with the greatest potential to establish themselves in the NHL one day, but the organization has other goalies who could become hidden gems depending on their development.
Among these is the Canadiens' seventh-round pick from 2021, the 6-foot-6 goaltender Joe Vrbetic.
Vrbetic is currently the number one goalie for the Trois-Rivières Lions in the ECHL, and he is having an impressive start to the season. In a league known to be tough for goaltenders, he has just been named the ECHL Goalie of the Week.
«Montreal Canadiens prospect Joe Vrbetic is the ECHL Goalie of the Week.»
This is excellent news for the Canadiens' management. At just 21 years old and with his imposing size, Vrbetic could become an interesting element in the coming years.
