Insider Confirms Kent Hughes is Negotiating an Extension With a Key Player
There is arguably nothing more complex to follow than the goaltender situation at the Montreal Canadiens.
As the three-goalie carousel continues a month into the season, a very relevant piece of information has emerged from Arpon Basu of The Athletic.
According to him, Kent Hughes and Samuel Montembeault have begun negotiations for a contract extension.
With the Quebec goalie set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, it seems that the Canadiens are indeed interested in keeping him in Montreal.
Considering that Jake Allen is also signed for another season, as is Cayden Primeau, if Montembeault is extended, the Canadiens will not be out of the woods after this season.
Again, according to Basu, Primeau is still part of the CH's plans, as the management fears losing him on waivers if he were to be sent down to the Laval Rocket. This is why he is currently still in Montreal.
The 24-year-old goalie also acts as an insurance policy for Hughes in case he fails to come to an agreement with Monty.
