During his recent appearance on BPM Sports, the colorful Tony Marinaro made a striking statement about Kent Hughes and Jake Allen.

According to him, it's evident that the Canadiens' GM regrets giving such a large contract to Allen in October 2022, which is currently complicating things for the organization.
Due to the emergence of Cayden Primeau, the management has to deal with a three-goalie situation, and this is because the 33-year-old veteran goalie currently has virtually no value. His contract at $3.85 million for another season cools off any teams looking to add depth.
Marinaro adds that the games Allen plays are detrimental to the development of Cayden Primeau and that he absolutely must be traded.
Continuing with his comments, I would even say that the additional year on number 34's contract significantly hinders the contract negotiations of Samuel Montembeault.
On one hand, it's known that the Quebecer is seeking to earn more money than Allen, and since the organization does not want to have two goalies totaling $8 million between them, this greatly complicates Hughes' task.
If Allen's term or salary were much lower, the Canadiens would have no problem trading him or signing Montembeault at the salary he demands.
However, since Hughes was too hasty in extending the veteran goalie's contract even before the last season began and before he showed average performance, he shot himself in the foot in the goaltender situation.
Fortunately, so far, this is one of the few mistakes the general manager has made since taking office.
