MAJOR: Jake Allen Reveals Everything About the Three-Goalie Situation
The three-goalie situation in Montreal has been a hot topic since the start of the season, with numerous trade rumors fueling discussions about what the Canadiens should do with their goaltenders.
These rumors, particularly involving Jake Allen, intensified after a mediocre performance against the Los Angeles Kings.
In an interview with Sportsnet journalist Eric Engels, the 33-year-old veteran shared insightful information about the challenging situation for the goalies.
"I think once we realized that this was going to happen, towards the end of camp and throughout the year - internally, we knew it wasn't going to be a short-term thing - we just had to accept it for what it is and deal with it," said Allen. "I really thought Cayden (Primeau) had a great training camp, Sam (Montembeault) obviously proved he is an elite goalie in this league, so you just have to have a good way of looking at things.
But I also think it's been beneficial to us. As goalies, individually, we've played pretty solidly so far this year. We had to find ways to benefit from it. We have more time to train, one guy gets a break and a night off, it helps to refresh mentally. It's something new for all of us, but we have to approach it the right way." - Jake Allen
Several details here are particularly interesting.
We learn that all three CH goaltenders knew from the start that the three-goalie system wasn't going to be a short-term situation. They were aware from the end of camp that they would have to share the net among three for a significant part of the season, possibly even until the trade deadline.
Additionally, Allen acknowledges his teammate Samuel Montembeault as an elite goalie in the league.
Allen concludes by stating that the team must benefit from the performance of the three goalies who have been doing well since the start of the campaign. He also believes that having more time to train is beneficial for them.
Jake Allen's mature statements reflect his character. He puts the team and organization before his personal needs.
It's commendable and incredible, especially at this stage of his career, where he uncomplainingly accepts sharing the spot with Montembeault and Primeau.
