Kent Hughes Makes a Massive Statement About an Imminent Trade
Although the regular season has already started, numerous issues remain unresolved for the Montreal Canadiens, including the notable situation of having three goaltenders. Many observers point out that this approach greatly affects the development of Montreal's goalies, especially Cayden Primeau, who has only started two games since the season's beginning.
Despite expectations from many journalists for an imminent resolution, the Canadiens' General Manager Kent Hughes doesn't seem in a rush to find a solution. According to his comments before the general managers' meeting in Toronto, the CH's goalies are playing excellent hockey at the moment, allowing him to wait before trading one of his three netminders.
"It's not urgent to resolve this matter, even if we don't want it to be like this all season. There are things we need to continue to evaluate. But I look at the performance of our goalies, and they are among the best in the league so far, so it holds. And why fix something that isn't broken?" - Kent Hughes
Therefore, the three-goalie situation in Montreal might continue for many more weeks. Hopefully, young Cayden Primeau will get more opportunities to play, as he needs quality minutes to reach his full potential and establish himself permanently in the NHL.
General Manager Kent Hughes also mentioned his desire to see which direction his team takes before making trades. Some veterans, like Jake Allen, Sean Monahan, and Tanner Pearson, could be interesting options for teams aiming to go far in the playoffs. However, a potential trade does not seem to be in the CH's plans as long as Martin St-Louis's team remains competitive.
"We have to wait," said Kent Hughes, when asked about his intentions in the trade market. "Look at the Oilers, most experts said they were probably the team in Canada with the best chance of winning the Stanley Cup this season, and their start isn't easy. So, there are 35-40 games left before the trade deadline, we'll see where we are in the standings." - Kent Hughes, via TVA Sports
Certainly, the Canadiens' performances will greatly dictate Kent Hughes' next actions. It will be very interesting to see how the Montreal team performs in the coming weeks and months.
