Kent Hughes Has Finally Found The Perfect Player to Complement Nick Suzuki And Cole Caufield
Many fans have questioned the selection of Juraj Slafkovsky since his arrival in Montreal. Indeed, although the first overall pick has shown some interesting flashes, many doubted his offensive abilities. However, it must be admitted that in recent games, the Slovak has simply been the best forward of the Tricolore.
Having finally gained confidence in his abilities, the 19-year-old is completely unrecognizable. Moreover, if his decision-making was sometimes too slow before, the left winger has clearly adapted to the pace of play in the NHL. It is also noticeable that he knows very well how to use his imposing size to maintain puck possession in the offensive zone, often leading to scoring chances.
We remember that the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, Martin St-Louis, repeatedly stated that he was looking for a complement to complete the duo of Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield. However, when evaluating the last three games of Juraj Slafkovsky alongside his new line mates, it is quickly noticeable that he is not just a mere complement; he is a key piece of the success generated by this first line.
"I'm going to say this.
Juraj Slafkovsky, in this first period, did not look like a 'complement' on the first trio.
He looked every bit a full member of this unit.
It's one of the first times that Cole and Nick are not 2+1, but a full 3." - Anthony Martineau
Honestly, it's very encouraging to see Juraj Slafkovsky play like this. Dominant along the boards, number 20 also shows that he has excellent vision of the game. If it weren't for missed opportunities by Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield yesterday, he could have easily finished the game with at least three assists. One thing is certain, when he stops hesitating to take his chances, Juraj Slafkovsky will become a formidable weapon for the Canadiens.
We knew that his development might take potentially longer than some players drafted after him, but we are clearly seeing what he can bring on the ice and it's definitely very promising for the CH. Patience is required since he is only 19 years old, but everything suggests that Slafkovsky has the talent needed to become an impactful player for the Tricolore in the years to come.
There is no doubt that if he continues to play like this, the points will come! Let's just say that Kent Hughes is looking like a genius right now, having repeatedly stated that the management had decided to draft the player who would greatly help the organization in the long term, not just short term.
