David Reinbacher on his Way to Montreal Sooner Than Expected? Insider Arpon Basu Reveals Everything
Earlier this week, the general manager of Kloten HC, the team where Montreal Canadiens prospect David Reinbacher is currently playing, announced the signing of a new defenseman. This news quickly led to speculation about the possibility of seeing the fifth overall pick arrive in North America before the end of his season in Switzerland.
However, The Athletic's journalist covering the Canadiens, Arpon Basu, who is currently in Kloten to monitor the defenseman's performances, confirmed significant information. Following a discussion with Kloten HC's GM, Larry Mitchell, Basu mentioned that this new signing was only related to the eventual loss of a defenseman on loan from Bern, and not a potential departure of David Reinbacher.
"To quell any speculation about the impact of this acquisition on David Reinbacher, Kloten's coach and general manager, Larry Mitchell, said the team was about to lose a defenseman loaned from Bern. This acquisition is intended to replace him, not Reinbacher." - Arpon Basu
He also added that the management of the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge had not yet contacted the European team regarding the possibility of offering an entry contract to the 19-year-old defenseman. As for Reinbacher, he admitted that he had not yet considered coming to Montreal or Laval, wishing to focus fully on his current season.
"Mitchell says the Canadiens have not talked to him about the possibility of an early departure for Reinbacher, and when I asked Reinbacher if he was considering coming after his season, he said he hadn't thought about it because he was focused on his season in Kloten." - Arpon Basu
Wow! That's pretty clear!
Therefore, we can forget the possibility of seeing David Reinbacher with the Laval Rocket in the coming weeks. However, knowing that Kloten HC is unlikely to make the playoffs, the hope of seeing the promising defenseman in the professional ranks by the end of the season remains. Indeed, the Rocket is really dominant lately, and all signs point to them being able to qualify for the playoffs.
The addition of the Austrian defenseman would certainly help the team led by Jean-François Houle to succeed in the playoffs, joining an already very talented defensive brigade. Certainly, we are eager to see him in action!
