Cole Caufield to Be Suspended? Minnesota Wild Fans are Calling for the NHL to Punish the Wisconsin Native
Last night, Montreal Canadiens star forward Cole Caufield received a completely absurd penalty, being called for a minor double-check against his opponent Marco Rossi.
Although the Canadiens managed to limit the damage, this penalty could have had major repercussions on the outcome of the game, as the score was tied 3-3 with only one minute and twenty-seven seconds left in the third period.
You can judge for yourselves, but let's just say it was a far-fetched penalty:
Following the sequence, many fans were outraged, blaming the referees for this seemingly invisible penalty. It's all the more frustrating considering the timing of the penalty, late in the third period with the game still tied.
Not helping to calm the tempers of Montreal fans, a Minnesota Wild fan made a fool of themselves on social media, claiming that the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge's number 22 should be suspended for his action.
See their post which quickly went viral on Twitter:
"Cole Caufield hits Marco Rossi. Legal? Penalty? Suspension?" - The Sota Pod
Yikes! That's completely nonsensical!
A suspension for such a move? Cole Caufield barely deserved a two-minute penalty for that double-check. If there's any action that should be reviewed by the NHL's disciplinary committee, it's certainly the sneaky hit by Marco Foligno on Justin Barron, who was in a very vulnerable position at the time of the contact.
Certainly, it's always captivating to hear what is said about Montreal Canadiens players by opposing fans, and in this case, it certainly amused us due to the absurdity of the comment.
There is clearly a huge exaggeration, as evidenced by the comments, where the term "suspension" clearly triggered strong reactions. Let's just hope that this fan wasn't serious when writing this tweet.
