The trio of goalkeepers, which was supposed to be temporary, has become a reality that the Canadiens have been dealing with for over two months now.

However, there is one certainty in this case, and that is Kent Hughes is still looking to resolve the situation by trading one of his goalies.
Due to the reassuring performance of the young Cayden Primeau and the increasingly evident emergence of Samuel Montembeault as the number one goalie, Jake Allen's place in Montreal is becoming less and less certain.
He is 33 years old and is definitely not part of the organization's long-term plans, unlike the other two goalkeepers.
In short, rumors of a possible trade of the veteran goalkeeper have been circulating for several weeks, but it is mostly the same five teams that are in the picture, namely the Seattle Kraken, Carolina Hurricanes, Edmonton Oilers, Buffalo Sabres, and New Jersey Devils.
These teams all have one thing in common, they all have significant shortcomings in goal, either due to injuries or lack of experience.
In connection with a potential trade for Allen, there is a new major development, as insider Pierre LeBrun just added fuel to the fire during his latest Insider Trading segment on TSN.
LeBrun on Insider Trading says that the Carolina Hurricanes recently spoke to Montreal about Jake Allen and that the Devils have discussed Jake Allen internally. Martin Brodeur was in St-Louis with Jake Allen, so he knows him well.

LeBrun has just confirmed that two teams would have recently discussed a possible trade involving CH's number 34, either directly with the Canadiens in the case of the Hurricanes, or internally with the Devils.
The detail that Martin Brodeur, who is an important member of the New Jersey franchise's management, knows Allen well is very interesting.
The picture seems to be slowly taking shape for the Tricolore. We still do not know what is delaying a transaction conclusion, however.
It's possible that the interested teams are looking to get a salary retention from Kent Hughes on Allen's contract, something that I strongly believe the Canadiens' GM does not want to do.
A resolution should occur sooner rather than later in this case, and it will be something to watch for after the Christmas break.
