In the last few minutes, Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St-Louis confirmed that Samuel Montembeault will start against the Washington Capitals tomorrow night.

"Samuel Montembeault will get the start in goal, Tuesday against the Capitals." - Montreal Canadiens

Knowing that the Habs had not played a game since January 27, it was predictable that Monty would be in the Montreal net tomorrow night.
Indeed, the Quebecois goalie has clearly established himself as the number one in the CH this season, expected to get much more playing time by the end of the 2023-2024 campaign.

A slap in the face for the American goalie Cayden Primeau

However, this announcement is still worrying for the young 24-year-old goalie, Cayden Primeau, who, despite good performances at the start of the year, sees his ice time considerably reduced.
The goalie of the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge has only played two games since December 29, thus questioning the assumptions that he would now be the number two in Martin St-Louis' lineup.
Indeed, the goalie has lost his last three games, recording a goals-against average of 3.65 and a save percentage of .895 during this stretch. There is no doubt that this limited playing time will certainly affect his development, he who was nevertheless seen as Montembeault's backup by many observers.
It is difficult to know his value in the trade market at present, but let's just say that his recent performances have most likely caused it to drop drastically.
We are right to wonder if Kent Hughes might attempt to place him on waivers to allow him to get starts with the Laval Rocket because if the trend continues, Primeau will get few opportunities to prove his talent to the management by the end of the season.
