Martin Necas has been a name associated with the Canadiens for some time now. The Hurricanes forward could well leave Carolina, and his potential is interesting.
The 25-year-old player becomes a restricted free agent, and several observers believe he could leave Carolina.
Could he be an interesting candidate for the Canadiens? Certainly.
At BPM Sports, Martin Lemay hosted Steve Bégin and Éric Bélanger to discuss this topic. The latter believes the Canadiens should do everything to try to sign him.
The other two seemed less in agreement. Necas has only had one season with over 70 points and two seasons with over 20 goals. Does he really deserve an annual contract of over 7 million? Éric Bélanger is of this opinion.
"He has immense potential and fits perfectly into what the Canadiens want to build. I'm willing to offer him 6.5 to 7 million per year."
Kent Hughes could target Martin Necas as his Kirby Dach or Alex Newhook of 2024. We'll see how it unfolds.
