Last summer, the Los Angeles Kings made a big trade to acquire Quebec forward Pierre-Luc Dubois, who was notably linked to the Montreal Canadiens.

While many fans hoped to see the former third overall pick land with the Canadiens, the majority are now rejoicing to see him in California. Indeed, right after signing a monstrous $68 million contract over eight seasons, his offensive production drastically dropped.
After reaching the 60-point mark in the last two years, Pierre-Luc Dubois has only gathered 15 goals and 23 assists (38 points) this season. Were it not for his 46-game campaign in 2020-2021, the 25-year-old center is on track for his worst offensive contribution in his career.
Obviously, this production does not justify his lucrative salary, making him, after Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty, the team's highest-paid player. It's a safe bet that Kings' general manager Rob Blake deeply regrets trading Gabriel Vilardi, Alex Iafallo, Rasmus Kupari, and a second-round pick for a forward whose performance is so disappointing.
Moreover, to make matters worse for Pierre-Luc Dubois, Kevin Dubé recently published an article on the Journal de Québec's website, highlighting many advanced statistics in the NHL. Thanks to this article, it's understood that Dubois' line is among the worst in the entire NHL.
Indeed, in terms of expected goals, i.e., the scoring chances that should result in a goal, PLD's line is among the only nine in the NHL to have only two expected goals to their name.
"Only nine lines have just two expected goals to their name, including the one formed by Jonathan Huberdeau, Yegor Sharangovich, and Andrei Kuzmenko with the Calgary Flames, as well as Pierre-Luc Dubois, Carl Grundstrom, and Alex Laferriere in Los Angeles." - Kevin Dubé

Yikes! A statistic that must be haunting Los Angeles Kings fans at the moment!
Certainly, the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, did very well not to pay the high price to acquire the Quebec forward last summer, especially when seeing such statistics come to light.
