By helping the Edmonton Oilers qualify for the Stanley Cup Finals, Corey Perry has etched his name into the NHL history books. The 39-year-old veteran became the first player in league history to compete in five finals with as many different teams.
Previously, Perry reached the playoff's ultimate stage with the Anaheim Ducks (2007), the Dallas Stars (2020), the Montreal Canadiens (2021), and the Tampa Bay Lightning (2022).
Hailing from Peterborough, Ontario, Perry has only lifted the Stanley Cup once, with the Ducks, during his first full season in the NHL.
At the beginning of the season, no one could have predicted Perry's appearance in this year's final. He started the campaign with the Chicago Blackhawks, but his contract was terminated in November due to inappropriate behavior at a team event.
Less than two months later, and with Commissioner Gary Bettman's approval, Perry joined the Oilers as a free agent.
In 38 regular-season games with Edmonton, he scored eight goals and five assists for a total of 13 points. Perry also added an assist in 13 playoff games, although he was often relegated to the press box.
