The Edmonton Oilers will need to hurry to find cap space in order to sign two young players.

The St. Louis Blues have submitted qualifying offers to forward Dylan Holloway and defenseman Philip Broberg.
Both Oilers players are currently unsigned but are restricted free agents.
The Blues acted quickly. Holloway, selected 14th overall in 2020, has received a 2-year contract worth $2,290,457 from the St. Louis organization.
Meanwhile, Broberg, the 8th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, has accepted a 2-year offer from the Blues with an average salary of $4,580,917.
The Oilers now have 7 days to match these offers. If they cannot, they will receive a 2nd-round pick in compensation for Broberg and a 3rd-round pick for Holloway.
This presents a significant challenge for new general manager Stan Bowman. The Oilers currently have no available cap space and are even over the cap.
