Massive Trade Rumour Emerging: Leon Draisaitl Traded to Canadiens Rival?

Recently, the Oilers have been at the center of several major issues, mainly in their desperate search for a true number one goaltender, as Jack Campbell has not been up to the task. Making matters worse, Campbell was demoted to the AHL earlier this week.

The Montreal Canadiens are reportedly involved in negotiations for one of their goalies, as several well-known NHL insiders have reported.

However, it's not just Montreal in the mix. Oilers GM Ken Holland is looking to make a big move. Elliotte Friedman reported that something significant is brewing behind the scenes.

Recently, a major rumor surfaced, involving star player Leon Draisaitl. According to Boston Hockey Now, goaltender Linus Ullmark is being discussed as part of a trade for the German forward from the Oilers.

Although the Bruins would have to add a lot to make the trade fair, I have strong doubts that the Oilers would dare to sacrifice Draisaitl in a panic move like this early in the season.

However, it's worth noting that Draisaitl's current deal of $8.5 million will end in the summer of 2025. Unless there's a significant turnaround, the franchise won't be able to afford the salary increase to keep him.
