Québécois Forward Linked to the Canadiens: Can Kent Hughes Pull off a Deal to Bring Him Home?
With the exception of Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki, and Sean Monahan, who are having an excellent start to the season, the other forwards of the Canadiens are struggling to contribute significantly on the score sheet. Besides these three, Brendan Gallagher and Alex Newhook are the only other forwards to have reached the seven-point mark so far.
Unfortunately, the loss of Kirby Dach has significantly impacted Montreal's offense, raising the question of whether Kent Hughes should consider acquiring a forward who can play in the top two lines, or at least in the team's top-9.
According to information disclosed by TSN insider Darren Dreger, an interesting opportunity might arise for the Montreal Canadiens. Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin is reportedly looking to add another defenseman, but to do so, he needs to free up salary cap space.
Darren Dreger's sources indicate that Quebecois forward Anthony Beauvillier is currently available on the trade market. Acquired in the trade involving Bo Horvat and the New York Islanders last year, the 28-year-old player is in the final year of his contract, worth $4.15 million.
"The problem for the Vancouver Canucks is that they don't have the necessary cap space, and the teams they are talking with are not interested in a particular player. Vancouver likes to use its depth at wing. That's why we've heard Anthony Beauvillier's name in the trade market. That's also why Conor Garland's name has been more or less mentioned recently." - Darren Dreger
Could Kent Hughes attempt to acquire Sorel-Tracy native Anthony Beauvillier? Beauvillier has proven in the past that he can definitely be a valuable asset on the top three lines of an NHL team. His addition could give Martin St-Louis more flexibility when setting up his starting lineup.
If the cost of acquiring him is not too high, he could be a very interesting option to help the Canadiens this season and in the future. Selected 28th overall in 2015, two spots after Noah Juulsen, Anthony Beauvillier has accumulated 11 goals and 14 assists (25 points) in 46 games since joining the Vancouver Canucks.
Do you think Kent Hughes should contact his counterpart, Patrik Allvin, to discuss a potential trade involving the Quebecois forward?
