Yesterday, a real twist of events occurred with the announcement of Jack Campbell being placed on waivers by the Edmonton Oilers, especially considering that he is in the second year of a significant five-year contract worth $5 million annually.
It's true that things have not been going well for him, as he has failed to meet the expectations of a number one goalie since his acquisition. After posting an 0.888 save percentage in 36 games last year, the 31-year-old netminder is performing even worse this season with a 0.873 save percentage.
But the verdict is now in, and it's official: Campbell has been passed over by all 31 NHL teams. He will, therefore, join the Oilers' farm team in the AHL.
