Massive Turnaround for Top Canadiens Prospect
Despite a roller-coaster season with the Kitchener Rangers last year, many observers expected Filip Mesar, the 26th overall pick in 2022, to make his debut in the professional ranks this year.
However, the Slovak forward only played two games with the Laval Rocket before being sent to the OHL for a second consecutive season.
This move has been perceived by many as an admission of failure, showing that the 19-year-old had not progressed as expected in 2022-2023.
Nevertheless, this situation seems to be greatly beneficial for Filip Mesar at the moment, as he is simply dominating in the junior ranks.
Enjoying a lot of playing time, which was unfortunately not the case in the AHL, number 48 is truly making a giant leap in his development.
After a season with only 51 points in 52 games, the Kitchener Rangers forward has amassed an impressive total of three goals and nine assists in six games.
"Filip Mesar, a prospect of the Montreal Canadiens, has accumulated at least one point in a sixth consecutive game." - OHL
Wow! This is huge for his progression!
While some fans may have already given up on Filip Mesar, he is currently proving his detractors wrong by showing that he indeed has promising potential.
It wouldn't be surprising if he becomes a key player in Martin St-Louis' lineup in a few seasons.
Like Juraj Slafkovsky, the Slovak is only 19 years old, so patience is key with this young prospect of the organization. He could quickly complicate the Montreal management's plans by establishing himself as an important member of the team's future success.
Certainly, it will be very interesting to continue to follow his performances this season, as he attempts to demonstrate that he is above the level of play in the junior ranks.
