Major Development Emerges and it Could Change Everything for the Canadiens' Future
As you know, the Montreal Canadiens are in the midst of a rebuild. Since Kent Hughes took over the reins of the team in February 2022, several changes have been made to build a team that will be a championship contender for many years.
Despite Trevor Timmins' journey as the director of scouting leaving a bitter taste in the mouths of fans, it is now evident that he has left a legacy that seems extremely promising for the future.
Currently, in the Tricolore's farm team, three rookies are making their mark in their first professional season, which is genuinely exciting for the future.
On one hand, after a sensational start to the season for Joshua Roy, followed by a slowdown for a few games, the Quebecer has recently reignited his performance.
He is now just one point behind the AHL's top scorer, Adam Gaudette, with 17 points in 13 games. It's worth noting that Roy has played two fewer games than him.
As for Sean Farrell, he started the year slowly but has picked up the pace in recent matches. He has 11 points in 13 games, which is an impressive performance for a rookie in the league.
They are respectively the 1st and 5th top scorer in the league among first-year players. Wow!
In addition, another important prospect is making his professional debut and progressing from game to game, and that's Logan Mailloux. The first-round pick in 2021 has accumulated three goals and seven points in 13 games, five of which were scored in his last five games.
He ranks 23rd among all AHL rookie scorers, but is third among first-year defensemen, just one point behind Olen Zellweger and three points behind Brandt Clarke. It should be noted that these last two are very high-level prospects.
Considering that Roy and Mailloux are only 20 years old and Farrell just turned 22, these offensive performances are very promising and suggest that they could become very important players for the Canadiens one day.
Taking into account that David Reinbacher, Lane Hutson, and Owen Beck are also expected to have significant impacts soon with the Tricolore, the future of the club seems very exciting.
