After the trade of Sean Monahan, the next player most likely to leave the Montreal Canadiens is probably Jake Allen.
The veteran goalkeeper has been in trade rumors for many weeks now, but nothing seems to be unlocking for him and for Kent Hughes in the market.
In relation to Allen's situation in Montreal, insider Elliotte Friedman has just revealed the possible reason why the file is stagnant at the Canadiens.
According to him, the departure of the 33-year-old goalie will coincide with the moment when Hughes finally receives the desired price for his player's services, even though he is currently an additional burden on the team.
"Montreal's General Manager, Kent Hughes, said mid-season that he might keep his three goalkeepers for the entire season.
Hughes set a price (considered to be a draft pick), but, like Gibson, it varies depending on salary retention. (Jake Allen has one more year at $3.85M after this season.)"
It is understood that as long as Hughes does not get what he wants for Allen, he will not accept a trade.
Everything would play on the return, either a draft pick, as well as on the Canadiens' salary retention on the last year of the goalkeeper's contract.
It seems there is a strong possibility that the threesome will continue even beyond the trade deadline, if the Canadiens' GM never gets the desired price for Allen.
